January Favorites and Fails!

Hey, guys! I haven't posted anything non-nail polish related in a while, and I know it's kind of late, but I really wanted to do a January Favorites! I love makeup and skincare just as much as nail polish, and I really feel like doing more varied posts, so here we go!

 My favorites for January :

  • Hello Kitty Apple Balm (from Sephora) and C. O. Bigelow Rose Salve  (from Bath & Body Works):  both these products have been life savers for my dry lips this winter. I have a really hard time finding lip products that work for me- most make my lips even more dry and chapped- but these do a great job of moisturizing!
  • L'Occitane Date Bouquet Hand Cream : I bought this in a three piece set from Sephora and although this brand does seem to be on the pricey side, a little goes a long way, it smells amazing, and lastingly moisturizes. Excellent for cuticles, too!
  • Yellow Stopper Base Coat : I bought this from Sally's Beauty Supply, but not to get rid of yellowing nails- I heard that this makes a great peel off base coat to use under glitter polish- and it really does work! The trick is to apply two coats on bare nails and let it dry for at least 30 minutes. The polish easily peels off, eliminating the need to scrub your nails with acetone, etc to remove glitter! This is amazing for me because I change my polish so often- you might not like it if you actually want your polish to stay on for more than a day or two.
  • Smashbox Master Class Palette : I bought this palette during Sephora's friends and family sale, and I have been loving it! The palette includes 24 eyeshadows (28 if you include the 4 brow powders which I use as shadow as well), 8 gel eyeliners, 2 blushes, 3 highlighters, and 4 lip glosses. The eyeshadows are beautiful, pigmented, blend well, and most importantly are in wearable colors (Azure being the sole exception for me, but you never know...). The gel eyeliners are smooth, creamy, and apply opaque, the blushes are beautiful (Posy Pink is very pigmented!), and the highlighters are just right- not too shimmery or glittery. I haven't tried the lip glosses yet because I have such bad luck with lip products, but I am extremely happy with this palette overall and I highly recommend it!

My only fail for the month was this Age Defy Moisture Cream which I got as a free sample from Sephora. I used it once and as soon as I applied it to my face I knew I was going to have a reaction. I ended up breaking out all over my face! I know this cream was to blame because it was the only new product I had used and I have gotten no new breakouts since I threw it away. I think I'll stick to my tried-and-true Garnier moisturizers...

What were your favorites for January?? Let me know in the comments!!
